It's some kind of impressing, how bad the high ISO performance of the A7IV looks like. Even the high ISO performance of my old RIII is better than the IV. How many years past by since the the RIII?! Thats very underwhelming. When you compare it also to the A7III, the A7IV doesn't see any light. At ISO6400 it loses 2/3 of a stop to the A7III. There is absolutely no progress with this sensor, it's outdated. Another step backwards in image quality for Sony. I was shocked how bad the ISO performance of the A7RIV was, but this thing gets in line in the donwards spiral. Also the A1 is underwhemling in high ISO. I don't buy cameras that perform worse in ISO performance as their predecessors. I use them for events and there is really nothing in the Sony line up over 20mpix, that can match the two five years old A7III and A7RIII. The studio comparsion tool is really priceless, as it shows the reality instead of manufacures marketing bla bla. Thx for the good work, dpreview.

The EVF response is very inconsistent. In a studio setting, it can look very sharp and clear. Outside on a sunny day, all kinds of weird things happen. It goes blurry when it thinks focus has been achieved and clear when not. It adjusts for shade and sun (of course depending on settings), which can be confusing re. exposure. When using the focus peaking, the colored highlights completely obscure a subject, like an insect on a flower, so that pin point focus accuracy is impossible. I found it best to turn off focus peaking all together. Sometimes there are weird bands of jelly across the viewfinder. Are these effects truly what I'll get in photo? Hopefully Sony (MILC hello?) will follow the Z9 lead soon. You many be right about optical, but the a74 is four or five years newer, a lifetime in camera tech.
